WHAT THE OTHERS SAY
Mariana was a wondeful host. I had the good fortune of having a private tour. I loved how she provided an insight into Cretan life/history while sampling a large variety of food. I would have enjoyed seeing the farmer's market with her but this occurred only on Saturdays and was not suitable for my schedule. She sent me additional inforrmation with recommendations on sites and restaurants that we visited and thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend!!!!
Lori. Excellent and can't wait to plan my next visit. Mariana was a pleasure to meet. She has a wealth of knowledge for Greek food in general. She has authored books on Ancient Greek cuisine. What she recreated took me back in time. It was the highlight of our trip. The flavors, the history and learning to twist on those recipes, fresh garden herbs, traditional cooking methods, the chats and discussion it all made me fall in love with Crete even more. Qaisar. We had a wonderful time on our tour with Mariana. Not is her knowledge of food, best locals and local preparation techniques fascinating, but her background in the history and culture of the island provided an additional layer of understanding and interest to everything we were eating. Mariana is very knowledgeable and took us to some fantastic spots. We ate very well! She even gave us the best recommendation for a restaurant we tried on another island after leaving Crete. We would absolutely recommend this tour with Mariana. Thank you!!! Douglas. Nidal. We had a wonderful time touring with Mariana. It was amazing to be able to learn about Chania from an experimental archeologist and food historian. We loved being able to try the home-made breads that Mariana baked using ancient methods. After the tour, Mariana gave us fantastic recommendations for things to do during the rest of our stay. Overall, this was a great experience. Nik-Nik. Mariana was a wonderful teacher and guide. I learned a lot about about Greek and Cretan culinary history while we strolled around historic Chania talking and tasting flavorful delights. I highly recommend this tour for any foodie who wants to learn more about the history of food preparation and how different spices were introduced into the local culture. Terry. We found Mariana somewhat accidentally and we thank our good luck for it. If you want to know more about the Greek food (food history, politics, ancient recipes etc) you must contact her. My husband and I took the historical- food walking tour and the next day we were part of a team of 6 people deeply interested in the historical bread baking and cheese making. In a venetian olive grove we baked in ash, on hot stones, in an amazing replica of a 5th century BC portable oven and we made cheese using ancient methods. Each of us payed 100 euros but it's worth every cent. We enjoyed every minute and we learned so much about the history of Greek food. And the meal after the lesson was amazing! Anna. I’m thoroughly fascinated with Mariana's cooking courses. I took two of them and I enjoyed the entire process, from mixing historically-appropriate ingredients and cooking over an open fire to using replicas of historic equipment and tools. Mariana is extremely generous with her knowledge and responded to every question in such a warm and nuturing way! Anne. . We are 5 friends and we took the ancient Greek cooking lesson and the the historical culinary tour of Chania. We made and ate hellenistic food cooked over a log fire in the beautiful garden with the olive trees and we baked bread in a replica of an ancient oven. As for her wonderful walking tour, I cannot praise her enough. It is an absolute must even if it is not your first visit to the city. Ada. |
